Plantation Shutters: What size of louver is most popular?

When Naples Shutter, Inc first opened its doors 41 years ago, plantation shutters were our most sought-after product. At the time, and for the first 30 years in business, shutters with a 3.5” louver were the most requested style. A louver is the angled slat attached to the vertical stiles that frame the shutter panels. As trends began changing, the larger, 4.5” louver started being requested more often and today approximately 75% of our orders being fulfilled go with the larger louver option for their plantation shutters.

As the louvers increased in size the operation of the shutters also began changing. A  traditional Key West shutter style has a standard tilt rod down the middle of the shutter.  shutters-bath Customers today not only prefer the larger louver but also a hidden tilt rod to give a more  open look through the louvers and it makes the shutter become more contemporary.

Requests for plantation shutters have been increasing in popularity recently. More homes are selecting plantation shutters as their window treatment of choice as they offer curb appeal on the outside of a home and help complete the look of a home on the inside by coordinating with a homes’ trim and crown molding.

Plantation Shutters have a long-life span that is timeless, and they add value to a home. They also are a perfect product to withstand the extreme weather in Florida by holding out the heat throughout the home.
